Cooly Rocks On is revving up to be the hottest year yet with more than 1,200 exceptional cars now registered.
Australia’s best ‘50s and ‘60s nostalgia festival will rock Coolangatta and Tweed Heads from the May 31 to June 10. The border towns will be fuelled with the hottest cars, nightly cruises, music, dancing and more for a full on 10 day festival of family fun.
The streets of Coolangatta and Tweed Heads will close on Saturday June 1 and June 8 plus Sunday June 9 to make way for the biggest custom, classic and hot rod car display in the Southern Hemisphere.
Most cars will participate in the Shannons’ Super Cruise through the streets of Coolangatta and Tweed on Saturday June 8 and Sunday 9 June from 6pm to 8pm. Organisers estimate the value of cars on display this year will top the 30 million dollar mark.
Cooly Rocks On CEO Bob Newman says this year’s display will be the most diverse. “Car enthusiasts can wander past the cars and have a chat with the owners, they are always keen to talk about their pride and joy,” Bob says.
“Behind every car is a fascinating history and a fastidious owner. Some cars have been transformed from rust-ridden relics from a farmer’s back paddock; others are treasured heirlooms that have been part of the family for generations.”
Bob says space is still available for surf cars in the new Cooly Rocks On Kirra surf precinct.
“The Kirra surf precinct will be jam-packed with surfing memorabilia from the ‘50s and ‘60s, retro market stalls with surf gear and the cars that are synonymous with the era including kombis, woodies, station wagons and panel vans,” he says.
